giants

Eating lunch at pho hung in beaverton - a bit of a fuss as one of the customers is asked to have his pic taken with staff. Said customer is a new rookie w/the Trailblazers. I missed his name, but he's a Korean gent who is about 7' 6" ... Very pleasant guy, hope he keeps that demeanor after a few months here. Many of the blazers have not.

That is indeed him. Very baby-faced, but also very stretched out. I think I recognized another of the blazers with him, an ordinarily somewhat-too-tall black guy, but as I don't remember names, I can't remember who it was. Also one of the nice guys on the team.

So, can you tell when I'm making a post from my sidekick2 with the very tiny keyboard that's almost too small for my fat fingertips?

Okay, I can't resist saying this anymore.

Pho Hung? Beaverton? You live in the elbow of the neigborhood of kinky names, you do.

I do indeed. Actually I live in Aloha, Oregon, in Quatama Village, in the Tualatin Valley, which is adjacent to the Willamette Valley (major tributary to the Columbia River) ... the Tualatin river flows into the ocean at Tillamook rather than going north into the Columbia.

Meanwhile, on the far side of Portland one finds Boring, to the south, Molalla, further south one finds Corvallis, much further south, Drain, and on the coast, such gems as Yachats.

Pronunciation guide:

Oregon: OR uh gun
Aloha: uh LOW uh not uh LOW HA
Tualatin: too ALL uh tin
Quatama: qwah TAH muh
Tillamook: TILL uh muck
Corvallis: cor VAL iss, not cor val EE
Yachats: yah HOTS, not yatch its
Willamette: will AM it, not will YAM itt nor will am ETTY

Amazing stuff, huh?

Still, nowhere near as blue-sounding, naughty-sounding or otherwise up-to-no-good-sounding as the Pho Hung at Beaverton. Smirksmirk.

Hey, Vietnamese noodle soup transcends silly names.

In the 1980s one of the better dim-sum restaurants in Portland was Hung Far Low.
