On June 29th, a friend (father of two college acquaintances) had a stroke. He died last week, on the 19th.
On July 12th, the father of a friend I've never met in person, died of cancer.
On July 8th my wife was informed she has endometrial cancer, as described elsewhere.
On the 20th, I attended the memorial for a friend of mine, who died at 86 or 87, the longest survivor in Oregon of Multiple Sclerosis. He passed away near the end of June.

So far, not only has the economy NOT recovered, but things are getting very unstable in the stock market. I need to get employed; there's no employment happening.

So. Is there some sort of curse on this summer, or am I just seeing coincidences?

Interestingly, the other day I learned of another good reason I left.
