If only it were not FPS, because the screenshots are gorgeous.

Because FPS seems to mean PVP and PVP seems to mean 'asshats and children and asshat's children'.

First-Person Shooters are games where you take the role of a combatant with a weapon of some sort. The graphics render the scene as though it were you, running around, and all you see is your hands and the weapons in them, and the enemies and the surroundings just in front of you, as though you had no periperhal vision whatsoever.

They sometimes go through 'cut scenes' where you pan back and can see your character.

So DOOM gave way to multi-player FPS games, where you could team up with or compete with other players who were (unlike you) completely visible to you, and this quickly gave rise to childish behaviour as people rendered their enemies into bloody heaps of torn and bullet-or-grenade riddled virtual flesh. They might even be able to loot your corpse, which found its way into games like Ultima and the other multiplayer online games.

Whenever there is a chance of competing with other players by killing their character in a messy and humiliating fashion, you're sure to find people who (perhaps as an extension of their schoolyard habits, perhaps just in vicarious reversal of their roles therein) find it terribly amusing and funny not just to bully people in-game by stealing from those who are in-game weaker, but also to mock their victims in the process.

There are two forms of combat in most online games: Player vs Enemy (PVE)where the players may join or not, in order to defeat enemies controlled by the computer, and Player vs. Player (PVP) where the players tend to compete with, and can attack, other players.

In at least one web-comic, the term 'asshat' was coined to refer to people who were, how to say, buttheads? Very frequently, the people who play in PVP can be asshats - they have permission from the game structure to abandon any empathy for others, and any sense of 'honor' or correctness is not only unrewarded, but actively disincentivised by the in-game award systems.

Therefore. This new game, which is a first-person shooter, but which has a story based largely on teaming to compete against other players, will almost certainly lead even the most dedicated players who attempt do play with courtesy and honor, to a point where they are acting like asshats.

And yet, I bemoan this feature of the game, because the graphical qualities of the characters are so beautifully done, at least from the screenshots.

Oh, the trash-talking part. Yeah, I prefer my trash-talk to come from good friends only, if I don't know a person, they should keep it zipped.
