in Redding CA

It is nasty hot down here and I am not acclimated to weather over 75.

It is also humid, oh joy. It rained a few days ago and the moisture hasn't yet baked out of the air.

Woke at 7am after getting to sleep at 3am, yay. Hotel breakfast is unimpressive but free. Stopped at Pat's place and gave Penny's good violin to niece Jamie (we both teared up) and visited a bit, then off to 10am service at All Saints Episcopal.

Verrrrry interesting to see different church politic views from other diocese.

Back at Pat's, wherre the ancient swamp cooler is working.

swamp coolers don't work in high-humidity environments. They work well until about 60% and then they start not being able to evaporate more water into the air to cool it down.

<- lesson brought to you by my experiences in the great state of Arid- (but only when the monsoons aren't dropping 5 inches of water a day) -zona.

At 100+ degrees F, the ambient 30% humidity is like adding a layer of hot grease to the skin for that extra basting goodness :) Although it was only 30% near the river, apparently.

It wasn't dry enough.

It got hotter than 98.

And I am cowering from the 88 degrees outside, in my nice dark apartment with the windows closed and the shades drawn and the fan running.
