kar ded

Priussses have a very small, weak battery for normal uses, which gets recharged when the car computer gets around to it. Mine died today because I started the car, turned off the ac, lowered the windows, and then turned off the engine. Lowered windows drained it.

Waiting for aaa to get here, they have 15 minutes before they Lose Big.

Will need to take car in tomorrow or saturday, I suppose.

Over the years, I've found a car battery charger to be an extremely convenient thing to have. I have the kind that plugs into an electrical outlet.

I do indeed have one here, but there is no way to reach from my apartment to the covered parking space which is allocated to me; if I did try, the management here would come down on me for 'car repairs in the parking lot' which are prohibited. (They've done this before when people tried to charge their batteries.)

I was parked at the farthest point in the parking lot from the entrance, as part of my attempt to force myself to walk more. Thus, while there was a pair of high-voltage substations nearby (which bridge grid power into two of the five buildings in the central-hub of Intel's Jones Farm campus) there was no way to safely tap them to power the starter.

The very nice young man (who I believe was Lebanese) with the battery box was able to get me going with minimal trouble, once he found the place I was parked, on that huge campus.
VERY nice young man.
