Brushfires in Australia

Read This.
Then, if you can, donate.

I found the Red Cross webpage linked there to be hard to access and it assumes you're a UK citizen.
So, I've written them to ask what to do if you're a US citizen trying to donate.
I'll update this once I get an answer back.

But if you have matching donations through work, you might consider talking to your HR people.

edit So far no word from the Red Cross, but tagryn has pointed out a link to donate to the Victoria RSPCA for those who wish to support the animals as well as the people who were hurt in this catastrophe.

Already donated at work.

Monday morning we had the hat go around (literally) and raised almost $1000, with donations remaining open until close of business Friday. And the company is going to match whatever we raise. We do a collection for some charity on Fridays as well, so that'll probably raise the total again.

I had a call with a guy 50-60 miles away from the fires at work last night. He wasn't directly affected, but he knows people in the area. It was a pretty emotional phone call.

I figured you're there. I'm aiming at my USAnian friends who may not have heard about this since the US media have their heads firmly shoved up their chutes and aren't talking about anything that isn't moneymeltdown or political shitflinging.

Yeah, we're getting our own politiful antics on page two or three, but the fires are all over the front pages.

To a sickening extent in some case. After the second day or so in a row of the front page being almost all photo of some poor bastard gazing over the ashes of their life, I've been getting a strong feeling of "Leave them alone you fucking vultures!"

Gave to the RSPCA Victoria through this link, which works for non-Australian folks too.

Thanks! I'm copying that to the entry itself.
