Not exactly a rant

OK, third try. This time in Notepad and then transcribed to the LJ.

This is not quite a rant. It may have rant-like components. If you are likely to be offended by this, you simply need not click on the link.

Tonight was the last straw for me. I will not be applying for a character on BnB (Brave&Bold Mux) though I encourage anyone interested in superhero RPG to go there. It's a great place.

A good part of that is the high quality of the staff. However, I have determined that one of those staffers, Cobalt@BnB/Cap@MXT/Mike ... has such an abrupt and unpredictable temper that I don't wish to be in a position where I have to interact with him.

Tonight, due to yet another degeneration into idiocy in the MXT lounge, I made the apparently objectionable observation that people who behave in the BnB lounge, in the way that the Bobbsey Twins (QS and Scar) behave regularly at MXT, can be sitebanned, and that because of that threat they're a lot more polite.

And Cap/Mike/Cobalt jumped all OVER that. Never sitebanned anyone, I should check my facts, etc. etc. etc.

Well, the fact is this. The news and information files for the place, and the room description in the player lounge, state clearly that harrassment and vulgarity will not be tolerated, and will be met with the strongest penalties. We're talking mux. Telnet server program that delivers a text interface through logins to a dedicated database.

There's only one 'strongest penalty' that's in any way credible. You tell the person they can't come back by refusing to connect to their site. That's a siteban.

After I told him to shove it, in a masterful display of my own maturity, I disconnected.
And connected to B&B to let the staffer there who had been helping me with my app, know that I was not going to complete it at this time. I gave up because there is no way I would be able to play there without at some point interacting with Cobalt or one of his alts.
I prefer to avoid that - when someone transforms from a regular, friendly person to a psycho hell beast in one breath, over the slightest provocation, real or imagined... No. \I've had to deal with way too much insecurity and temper, don't need it in a staffer.

Nor does HE need me to be around underfoot - if a random anything I say is going to set him off, that's not going to do anything good for his performance as primary staffer for Metropolis and Bludhaven. He's a good staffer, he's got great ideas and his RP has in my experience been good, most of the time. So, I'd rather not mess with something that's apparently made him very happy, because frankly, what I saw there was happier than I'd seen him in two years at MXT.

So. Gordon, Nory, sorry, I won't be playing there for the foreseeable future. Mike, best of luck.

Hey! Clarification....
I protest!

Since I play Mike@MXT, I want everyone to know that the Mike/Cap/Cobalt person ain't me. Though I suspect I know who he really is, and ... uh ... we'll just say that I don't miss his play.

YMMV. Mine sure does. ;)

True. His meat name is Mike. Sorry about the confusion.

I don't have that much to add except for the fact that I get the distnct feeling that Cap at MXT is a dissatisfied person in RL. And that I can't spell. I've had that feeling for a long time.

Gordon has convinced me that I should still apply there, but it won't be for a while, unless Mike actually chooses to page me or writes to say otherwise. In my experience, he goes into one of these 'you are my mortal enemy' fixations for about a month, where just about anything will be deemed insulting or hostile or worse, whether or not it was. I stay away from him until he's cooled down and things get a lot better.

Ah well. Yeah, he does seem to be under stress. Hope things improve soon.

Re:
BnB's app is a monstrosity. I, personally, don't feel like touching it.
